The World Wide Web is a massive collection of web sites, all hosted on computers (called web servers) all over the world. Because of the web's uniquely global nature, a web site should be accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Rather than pay to have a 24/7 dedicated Internet connection to an in-house webserver, many people opt to host their sites with a web hosting provider. Web hosting clients simply upload their web sites to a shared (or dedicated) webserver, which the ISP maintains to ensure a constant, fast connection to the Internet.
Web hosting allows your Web site to be connected to the Internet at high speed via a Web server so its information can be viewed globally through a browser. Metaphorically speaking, renting space on a server is comparable to renting an apartment. For a monthly fee, you reside in that apartment and all maintenance is the responsibility of the property. You also have access to certain amenities that would otherwise be a costly investment. A Web hosting company houses your Web site on its own secure servers, enabling you to affordably leverage the power of a high-speed network, 24/7 expert monitoring and support, and state-of-the-art technology.
This is the ability of a web-server to host multiple websites using a single instance of the web-hosting software on a single computer. IP virtual hosting differentiates between websites based on their IP address, while virtual hosting is domain name-based and can therefore host many different sites on the same IP address. All EasyNet Web Hosts hosting is virtual hosting.
All the webs on a specific virtual host have to share the web services with all its other webs. Each site is provided file transfer services (uploading and downloading), email, file directory services, domain registration, and more advanced features like site security, web site design, and software packages, like shopping cart software.
Diskspace is the size your website can be. Every single letter on your website has to be stored somewhere on the web-server. Each letter is one byte, and a megabyte is roughly one million bytes. HTML pages are usually very small, but it is the extra images, scripts, and even databases that can take up large amounts of disk space. A typical 10 page small business web-site will easily fit into 10 megabytes of disk storage.
Bandwidth is the amount of data the server will allow your site to send in a month. Transfer is usually measured in megabytes (millions of bytes) or gigabytes (billions of bytes). Bandwidth limits we have set are more than adequate for the average small business web-site, however once you go over your monthly limit, no more transfer to or from your site will be allowed. You can monitor the bandwidth usage of your site using the Control Panel 'Bandwidth' icon under Analysis and Log Files. If you require additional bandwidth Submit a Support Request and we will increase it as long as it is reasonable at no additional cost to you.
You can upload your website using Microsoft FrontPage, FTP, Dreamweaver or our control panel. Probably the easiest is Microsoft Frontpage. All our sitescan have the Frontpage Extensions installed - these are used to intelligently allow transfer of your site information from your computer.
If you have chosen to pay for your site hosting monthly and you have chosen PayPal to pay, you need a PayPal account setup because we are using the PayPal subscription service to automatically shedule and pay your bill monthly. This can only be done if you are a PayPal member. Yearly accounts and payments for domain names are one-off payments and if that is all you have in your Cart you will not be forced to create a PayPal account, you just pay with your Credit Card. With annual payments we will request payment from you 14 days before your account anniversary.
If you are NOT paying monthly via PayPal all you need to do is request the upgrade via the Technical Support ticket system (from the Control Panel) and we will upgrade the account and send you a PayPal invoice to pay the difference. You have 7-days to pay or your account will be set-back to the orginal limits.
If you are paying monthly via PayPal subscription, you need to do two things.Cancel your subscription via PayPal (you can find your active subscriptions via your PayPal account history).
Signup for a new hosting package of the size you want. Make sure you do this within 24 hours of cancelling the old one or you may be in danger of having your site purged from our server.
Having a domain name allows you to have your very own and unique web presence. A website can be used as a wonderful marketing tool for a business or a great way to share your hobbies and interests with others on the World Wide Web. To learn more about domains click here.
